Finding Encouragement in the Finding Encouragement in the Wilderness September 22, 2018 One real challenge living in the wilderness is finding community. It is hard to make friends in a new place and even more so when people appear to be anti-social. I have come to realize, in a very short time, human beings, including myself, were made for community. This is hard sometimes also when my personality tends to be more of an introvert. I do not do well in parties or large gatherings. I do not do well meeting new people as well in a non structured environment. I like talking to Uber drivers where it is a one on one setting, but when there are four or more people then sometimes I tend to disappear. I have discovered this week the value and encouragement of community, more specifically in the context of the workplace. I have been introduced to some new coworkers and some of which share the same faith. There was an instant connectedness and I felt like I came alive just a little bit more. I think of a passage of Scripture: 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. (Hebrews 10:24-25) It is so important to find that encouragement especially from people of the same faith as the writer of Hebrews says. The end result is spuring one another one to love and good deeds. And that I think is why I felt a little bit more alive during such times.I do not think I am doing justice to how important it is for me to have a sense of connectedness especially in a spiritual sense to others. For anyone reading this, who is strugling to find peace, and joy, and fulfillment, and passion, perhaps one possible missing piece is community. I am on this journey to discover what it is to live a passionate, abundant life, and I for sure believe healthy relationships is a big piece. This is something I need to be in continual prayer for. Father in Heaven, thank You for the moments where You bring people into our lives who reflect Your goodness and love and that in turns brings life to other people. I see more and more especially in this season how important it is to have healthy relationships. Please bring more healthy relationships into my lives and enable and empower me to be a friend to the people already in my community. I need Your wisdom and grace to become the man You desire for me to become. For anyone reading this, please help them to seek out and find healthy relationships that are mutually benefitial that bring life to those around them. wilderness
