The Power of Encouragement
November 24, 2018
One of the hardest things about living in the wilderness is being disconnected from true community. People here seem anti-social and it is real hard to connect to people out here. The day before Thanksgiving a friend messaged me and said do I have some free time for lunch or dinner. I was surprised to learn that he is driving here from my hometown for Thanksgiving, about a ten hour drive.
That time hanging out with him was very refreshing, there is something special about connecting with people in a genuine way that encourages and brings life. There is a passage of Scripture that I am reminded of:
24 Let us think about each other and help each other to show love and do good deeds. 25 You should not stay away from the church meetings, as some are doing, but you should meet together and encourage each other. Do this even more as you see the day coming. (Hebrews 10:24-25)
There is power in meeting up with people in real community, there is power in encouraging and caring for other people especially good friends and people who know us.
What life-giving friendships do you need to invest in this week?
Father in Heaven, thanks so much for true community and the encouragement we have in real friends. Please help us to invest in healthy relationships to both give and receive encouragement and kindness.
