Keeping Our Minds On What is Positive

About two days ago I had two situations on opposite sides of the spectrum. The first was a negative situation and the other was a positive one. Dwelling on one of those situations would bring two very different mental states. Thankfully, the more positive one came second and I could be thankful for it. When I first came to this town, I just needed to find a place that was convenient and affordable. Little did I know that it would be voted as a good place to live. There are those moments where God surprises us with things He provides. There is a verse I try to use as a filter for my thoughts:

8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. (Philippians 4:8)

There are several descriptions of the kind of things we should be thinking about and each one is different. For example, something could be true but not worthy of praise. It is important that thoughts be filtered by these descriptions. Keeping our minds on negative things brings us into a negative state of mind. Conversely, thinking on things that are good and worthy of praise keeps us living well.

Prayer:
Father in Heaven, so many times we can think about negative things. We need so much to filter our thoughts. Please help us filter our thoughts on what is good and true and those things worthy of praise.
