Getting Older

Getting Older
June 8, 2019
For seven years now I have had a mysterious health condition where my leg muscles are very weak and both feet are numb which makes walking very difficult. Another challenge since then and on going is going to the bathroom. The pastor mentioned something in a sermon illustration a few months ago called a bidet. I found out what it is but it is very expensive. Earlier this week I found a portable one that is only $10. I delayed trying something like that and at times get very discouraged that I am not as healthy as I was only a few years ago. The Bible speaks of this:

16So we do not give up. Our physical body is becoming older and weaker, but our spirit inside us is made new every day. 17We have small troubles for a while now, but they are helping us gain an eternal glory that is much greater than the troubles. 18We set our eyes not on what we see but on what we cannot see. What we see will last only a short time, but what we cannot see will last forever. (2 Corinthians 4:16-18)

It is so easy to fix our eyes on temporary and physical things that sometimes seems so discouraging. The key is to focus on what is eternal, those things that last forever. The Apostle Paul starts out by saying that we do not give up, and it is so easy to give up sometimes. As I write this it is the National Basketball Association Championship Finals. The two time defending champions are down three games to one, and face elimination in gamve five which is two days from now. Their top player is out with injury and right now the other team is playing at a high level. I am not the coach, and I do not know what is going on in the minds of the players, but I can just imagine how someone can approach this elimination game. They can either not even try, or they can put forth their best effort and let the results up to God.

Prayer:

Father in Heaven, there are some moments that seem hard. We get older and our bodies are not the same as they were when we were younger. When we focus on temporary problems, we can get so discouraged. Please help us to keep our eyes focused on those things that are eternal and last forever. We still need to thrive in the midst of living here on earth, and so please help us with the strength and wisdom to endure and not give up each day.
