Finding Moments of Goodness
February 23, 2019
It seems like for the past couple of weeks I have been struggling with the goodness of God. Although I am still wrestling with this still, something happened twice this week that reminded me of God’s goodness. It is rare to snow here in the desert. In fact, one lady at the market said it has been ten years. I have been here about two years and have not seen snow. However, Sunday night, and then Wednesday night leading into Wednesday morning it snowed. The second time it snowed a lot more so that it stuck to the ground. To those in Chicago or Boston, it might seem like nothing, but to someone really struggling with knowing God is present, this really meant a lot. There is a verse I thought about:
9 However, as it is written:
“What no eye has seen,
what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived”—
the things God has prepared for those who love him” (1 Corinthians 2:9)
This passage reminds me that for those who love God, who seek Him in all things, God has great things prepared for us. It might seem like a small thing, but I really felt God’s goodness that it would snow, and I would experience it here in the desert.
Father in Heaven, sometimes it is really hard to see Your goodness especially when we are in a physical and spiritual desert in our lives. Thanks so much for the snow this week, something that has not happened in ten years here. Thanks for the beauty and simplicity of these moments. Please help us to see and experience You more in this season of our lives.
