Getting What We want
March 30, 2019
I had an interesting moment this week. There is a Vietnamese restaurant my wife and I like that we were thinking to have dinner. They also have Chinese dishes and we were both thinking to order food that is a Chinese rice dish. However, I was also thinking about getting noodles or the rice dish. We would later find that the restaurant was closed and we ended up going to a Chinese restaurant nearby that is a Panda Express style place. The lunch special has both fried rice and fried noodles in addition to a specified meat. I thought about this verse:
Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart. (Psalm 37:4)
We both did not end up in the restaurant that we were thinking to go, but then God had something for us and that was another restaurant. Sometimes we do not understand God’s plan, actually that is probably most of the time. However, the moment that sticks out to me is that God knows what we want, but He shows us He is aware of it and that sometimes we get what we want but in a different way that we had originally had thought. I learn to give thanks in these moments, to know God is present, and He cares.
Father in Heaven, thank You that You know us and the things that we want and desire. There are times when You give us what we want but not in the way we had expected or planned for it. Help us to see that You are at work and how You are speaking to us. I want to not miss out on the ways that You are speaking and working around me.
