Going Here or There
April 27, 2019
For a long time, perhaps even before I came to the desert, I have had a reluctant attitude about being here. Some days I do see some good things about this place, but I have not ever called this place home. This morning was one very rare moment that I thought that this place might be good to stay and it was the first time when we went to the park where we had an actual conversation with a neighbor, a conversation lasting more than ten minutes. It got me thinking about a verse in Scripture:
13 Some of you say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to some city. We will stay there a year, do business, and make money.” 14 But you do not know what will happen tomorrow! Your life is like a mist. You can see it for a short time, but then it goes away. 15 So you should say, “If the Lord wants, we will live and do this or that.” (James 4:13-15)
I have thought a lot about relocating to another place, but each time that door has not opened up. For now, this is where I need to stay. It had been a long time when I had really connected with someone in this city, and this place lacks true community. That is one major reason I do not like it here. I have often wrestled with the question where does God want me to stay, and I wrestle with being in this particular place now.
Where are you today? What challenges are there in that place?
Father in Heaven, sometimes it is difficult to be in the place where we are at. This can be for any number of reasons. Sometimes we think to go somewhere else. Please help us to see the positive value of where we are and how to make the most of this opportunity.
