Thinking About What is Good
There were two events this week that produced two very different responses for me. I will start with the negative one which was yesterday. We went to Starbucks and there was a new barista, that is the first time we saw her was last week. She had some serious attitude issues last week and our purchase did not go towards our supermarket points as it normally does. I thought maybe she is new and she is having a bad day. The same thing happened yesterday, same mistake, and same bad attitude. It did not bother me so much in the store, but it really bothered me when I began to focus on it back at home.
Earlier this week, on MOnday, I got my new keyboard just in time. For the past three days one of the keys was starting to be dysfunctional. I knew I had to get a new keyboard. I had to type up some reports on Monday and it was so hard, I prayed just in that moment that the new keyboard would come, and a few moments later, it came, right in time for me to finish four reports. I really struggled typing up the first report, but things got much more easier when the keyboard came. There is a Scripture that has been on my mind this week:
8 Brothers and sisters, think about the things that are good and worthy of praise. Think about the things that are true and honorable and right and pure and beautiful and respected. (Philippians 4:8)
When I go through this list of qualifications, both the negative experience and the positive experience were true, but they were not equal in goodness and beauty. The positive situation produced me being very thankful to God and happy for even the next several days, just remembering the timing of how God came through. The negative situation had me thinking negative about the person and had me in a bad mood for the next few hours which was not good.
What will you choose to focus on this week?
Father in Heaven, sometimes really good things happen and it causes us to be so thankful and so happy, but equally so negative people can lead to us thinking so negative. Please help us to focus on that which is not only true, but also good and beautiful. I really need Your help to do this.
